Website Accessibility Statement: Aughton Parish Council

(Draft 07 Sept 2020)

GENERAL

Aughton Parish Council  is committed to providing equal access to its website. To comply with government legislation, we have recently updated our Website to WordPress and added Accessibility Widgets by UserWay.org to ensure that it is easily accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. UserWay’s Accessibility Widget assists in bringing our website into compliance with the government regulations on accessibility for public sector websites: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/accessibility-requirements-for-public-sector-websites-and-apps.

ACCESSIBILITY ON AUGHTON PARISH COUNCIL WEBSITE

The Accessibility Widget is a blue and white icon located at the top right of any page. By clicking on the blue and white icon on the top right of any page, you can access a number of features to help you.

  • Increase the text size
  • Enable navigation without a mouse
  • Listen as the website reads out loud to you
  • Enable high contrast colours
  • Increase the text spacing
  • Change the font to make it clearer
  • Use a large cursor
  • View tool tips to help you find features

Accessibility Audit

A detailed audit will be carried out regularly by the Webmaster via UserWay to see if our content and functionality is WCAG 2.1 AA compliant. The option of commissioning a third party to carry out a more detailed audit would not be viable for Parish Councils, given that all Aughton Parish Councillors are not paid officials but volunteers. If any problems are found at any time regarding accessibility, these will be addressed by the Webmaster within an appropriate time framework, in order to make the website compliant and accessible to all.

Disclaimer

Aughton Parish Council continues its efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of its site and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible and unhindered use also for those of us with disabilities.

In an ongoing effort to continually improve and remediate accessibility issues, we will also regularly scan the Aughton Parish Council website with UserWay’s  Accessibility Scanner to identify and fix every possible accessibility barrier on our site. Despite our efforts to make all pages and content on the Aughton Parish Council website fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution.
